Yet another Online Advertising Typo – DOH!

Facebook Ad TypoFirst let me say that I am far from perfect.  I make mistakes often, however I know my weaknesses and spelling is one of them.  I run things through spell check!  I run things by coworkers and people I know that can proof read.  Does everyone else do this as well?  Twice now, within a week, I have found two major typos.  I consider them typos because of the purpose of the text to which I found the typo.

The first typo was in an email newsletter subject line.  NOT GOOD!  I chose to not even open it just based on that fact.

The second was on a Facebook Ad.  Below is the typo.  I just don’t understand how you can be advertising something to the masses and have a typo in it… (I hope we don’t have any typos on our site!)

Although I firmly agree with you Matt I also must concede to using this to my advantage numerous times. Facebook is VERY strict on what they allow in on their ads. They typically reject ads for misspellings in the content. I’ve yet to experience title rejects yet for typos.

Actually that ad must have been one someone had sitting inactive for a while because Facebook most certainly doesn’t accept ads with capital letters through out.

Anyways it isn’t uncommon for internet marketers to take advantage of a typo to draw attention to their ads (ie: Free Zeb Design/Dev Event). This usually occurs on more CPA style ads so there is really no clear excuse for this one but it did obviously catch your attention…bad attention, still your attention though.

    Nice article though!

Well put Mike. They always seem to catch typos and I considered that. Perhaps it got through because it was an ad with Microsoft on it….not sure. I often wonder if people who approve these ads just get bored and let anything go through at the end of the day.
Thanks for the comment! Looking forward to More from you!
