The Power of Content on the web

April 15th, 2007

I have always said that content is the true driver of your website.  To show you how important it can be to update your site with information, let’s review a case study of the impact updates can have on your site.

The New England Surge is Worcester’s new Professional Indoor Football team.  As a member of the CIFL – Continental Indoor Football League (http://www.continentalindoorfootball.com/) they provide some exciting, hard hitting, slam against the boards, family entertainment.  The family part comes from “Surgeo”, the team mascot.  The Worcester Telegram and Gazette ran a “Name the Mascot” contest, and “Surgeo” was the winning name.

If you go to Google (www.google.com) and you query:

Surgeo mascot

You will find that they have the top 4 rankings refer to the naming of the mascot.  There are a number of reasons why, in no particular order:

  • It was recent news
  • There were press releases that were sent out and put on the website
  • Other websites are linking to both the surge website and the telegram site
  • The news was picked up by other pertinent websites that run news feeds for their industry (www.oursportscentral.com)

No matter what business you may be in, content is the driving force behind getting good results on your website.  If you don’t have much to write about, consider calling us to discuss this.  In many cases we can assist you in writing this content by asking you the engaging questions and looking at your market from a client perspective.

One more point, it doesn’t matter who is adding or writing the content on your website,  Surgeo could write the content and it will show up if it’s relevant!
