Correct Use of Internal Linking

August 12th, 2010

Internal Linking

Now that you have a working structure of your website, learned the importance of a fine navigation, built your content area, and maybe even a side bar, you have probably wanted to gain the popularity you deserve for your hard work. You have done every last bit of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and want to manipulate your PageRank even more. This is where internal linking can allow you to beef up the pages that you currently control while allowing them to stay within your website.

Ultimately we would love to all show up on Google for any search term entered, however, we try to keep it relevant now. The importance of internal linking is clearly defined as:

  • Building key phrase specific anchor links
  • More pages are indexed and crawled
  • Internal pages increase in PageRank

Below are the web browser stats for May 2010.

2010 IE8 IE7 IE6 Firefox Chrome Safari Opera
May 16.0% 9.1% 7.1% 46.9% 14.5% 3.5% 2.2%
April 16.2% 9.3% 7.9% 46.4% 13.6% 3.7% 2.2%

January 14.3% 11.7% 10.2% 46.3% 10.8% 3.7% 2.2%

In Summary….

IE 8 is having a small setback (YEAH!)

IE 6 and IE 7 are Down as expected from last month.

Firefox remains Steady and is continuing it’s growth assault on the industry as the #1 Browser.

Chrome is up and the trend continues what we saw in 2009.  What is interesting is that it is growing monthly by almost a full 1 percent.  Which is quite a bit of usage if you think about the entire world on the internet.

Both Safari (yuck) and Opera remain low and are likely on their way out in the next couple years.

Overall Firefox is the most widely used browser on the Market today beating out all Versions of IE Combined by an amazing 14.7%, up 11.2% in only 2 months (from February Browser Reports)
